2.2. Menu

This section describes the function of each menu item. Many menu items are shown with a keyboard shortcut. When such a shortcut is available, you may use the keyboard combination instead of choosing it in the menu.

 

File menu Edit menu Format menu View menu Help menu

 

File menu

CTRL+QExit
Close Unit & Number Converter.

 

Edit menu

CTRL+Z Undo
Reverses the last command or deletes the last entry you typed.
CTRL+X Cut
Copies the selected text to the clipboard and then clears it from the input line.
CTRL+C Copy
Copies the selected text to the clipboard for pasting into other applications.
CTRL+V Paste
Copies the text from the clipboard and places it in the input line.
DEL Delete
Deletes the selected text or, if nothing is selected clears one character from the left.
CTRL+S Convert to SI Base Units
Show a complex unit using only seven base SI units.
CTRL+A Select All
Unit & Number Converter selects the whole expression in the input line.
ESC Clear Input Line
Clears the input line.

 

Format menu

Automatic Mode
Automatic mode displays numbers exactly as you enter them and answers to 15 significant decimal places.
Scientific Mode
Scientific notation expresses a number as a mantissa - with only one digit to the left of the decimal point and the user-specified number of decimal places - and the exponent
Engineering Mode
Engineering notation expresses a number as a power of ten such that the numeric value is greater than or equal to 1 but less than 1000, and the exponent is a multiple of three.
Fixed Mode
Fixed mode displays numbers rounded to an user specified number of decimal places (default is 6)
Decimal Places
Specifying the number of decimal places (0-6) after decimal point.
Decimal Separator
You can use the dot (.) or comma (,) as decimal separator
Dot (0.5)
Comma (0,5)
Use Digit Grouping
If the Digit Grouping is checked, then the number is shown in decimal format with a separator (small space) that separates groups of three digits from both sides of the decimal separator.
Grouping Binary Digit
If the Grouping Binary Digit is checked, then the binary number is separated into groups of four digits starting from the right.

 

View menu

F9 Show Database...
Open the database of units and prefixes.
F11 Always on Top
Including this option will make the Unit & Number Converter visible even when it is not active.

 

Help menu

Online Help
The Online Help for Unit & Number Converter provides a detailed help files with syntax, usage, and examples for all of the supported functions.
F1 About SolCalc
Displays a dialog in which some information about the current version of Unit & Number Converter can be found.
